Falassarna is a very popular beach on the south coast 50km away from Hania. The beach is very big and often visited by tourists and locals due to its proximity to the town and the tourist resorts. It is a very well organized beach and its size allows many people to enjoy it at the same time, while it never gets congested. Beach parties are organized here, especially in July and August. This beach has been awarded several times and it is a must for those visiting the island. Close to the beach the remains of the ancient harbour of Falassarna are now evident on the beach since Crete is elevated from the sea level on this side of the island and deepens on the east side of the island. The remains extend into the sea, while in the surrounding area there are also more remains of the ancient Falassarna town. The sunset at the beach is unique as the sun dives into the deep sea in front of your eyes.
